Mani Kambo will be the Magna Project’s artist-in-residence during Spring 2026. After an on-site research period, Mani will collaborate with local community group Zigzag Days to create a new contemporary art installation for the landscape of Magna Roman Fort. The co-produced artwork will be exhibited, July – November 2026.

Mani Kambo is a multidisciplinary artist based in Newcastle upon Tyne. Primarily working in textile, print and moving image, Mani explores the inner spirit by drawing on her own personal totemic symbols. Influenced by her upbringing in a household filled with superstition, Mani focuses on objects, routines and rituals distilled both from the everyday and mythology. Through layering and editing images together, Mani collages narratives and weaves dreamscapes. Reflecting on her upcoming residency, Mani is particularly looking forward to spending time in a dark skies location, looking up and connecting with the landscape above and below ground.

You can read more about Mani’s practice and view past projects via her website.

Community partner Zigzag Days have worked with the Vindolanda Trust on projects since 2021. In 2025, the group participated in Unearthing Historyexploring Roman pottery through hands-on engagement, creative practice and archaeological research.

This new collaboration between Mani and Zigzag Days aims to celebrate creativity, community, and the landscape surrounding Magna Roman Fort. We’re really excited to see what they create together.
